The $5 million petfood facility concept was formulated by the design team from T.E. lbberson Company (Ibberson) and the engineers from the Country Foods Division of Agway. The concept was then turned over to Ibberson's engineers and construction personnel who carefully worked through all stages of engineering, construction and start-up.

The site at St. Marys was agreed on as ideal. Located about 20 miles southwest of Lima, Ohio, the plant can call on supplies of corn, midds, grain and soybean meal from fairly close-by sources.

The plant took approximately 20 months to build and equip. It has an annual production rate of 35,000 tons; the plant's rated capacity, on a two-shift basis, is targeted at 60,000 tons. Expansion capabilities, built in by construction of additional extruder pads and space for additional steam supply, would permit the facility to achieve a 100,000-ton annual rate.

Physical features include a 140-foot-high concrete tower of slipform construction, a 30,000 square foot warehouse and 3,000 square feet of office space for all administration and quality control personnel. Two areas for receiving and shipping by rail are included, but since most traffic will move by truck, emphasis was placed on truck dumps, Bobcat unloaders and dock-high warehouse loadout.
