Malt Expansion Project - Idaho Falls, Idaho
CLIENT
Anheuser-Busch Companies, Inc.
CONTRACT TYPE
EPC Lump Sum
The original Idaho Falls malt plant had a production capacity of approximately 8 million bushels per year. The expansion project doubled the capacity to nearly 16 million bushels.
The expansion project included engineering design, procurement and construction to change out the existing barley cleaning equipment, slipform construction of nine new malt storage silos and installation of associated distribution and reclaim equipment, slipform construction of a vertical steeping and germination structure along with installation of the process equipment, erection of new concrete kiln structure and associated equipment, and installation of new material handling equipment and steel support structures. The project team coordinated the work so the facility was able to continue operations throughout the expansion project.
Prior to award of the project, the team worked with the owner for approximately one year on front-end engineering and estimating efforts to develop the most economical design and execution approach for the project. The expansion project was completed using a design-build project delivery method, which reduced the overall project schedule.
