South River Tunnel Pump Station Slipform
Atlanta, Ga.
The South River Tunnel project was a joint venture between Ibberson, Kiewit and Western Summit for the City of Atlanta, Georgia, and its effort to upgrade the water/wastewater infrastructure of that area. The project included the construction of a new underground pump station shaft which would have a finished diameter of 50 feet high and over 175 feet deep.
Nancy Creek Pump Station
Atlanta, Ga.
The Nancy Creek Pump Station is a wastewater facility built for the City of Atlanta, Georgia. In 2001, the general contractor on the project, Western Summit Constructors, experienced obstacles during the first phase of construction and began to explore strategies for project acceleration. They called on the expertise of Ibberson and inquired whether it was possible to build a 72-foot-diameter by 160-foot-deep underground shaft using slipform concrete construction methods.
Spring Hollow Reservoir Intake Tower
Salem, Va.
Ibberson was awarded the contract to provide slipform equipment and labor services for the intake tower. General contractor PCL originally scheduled 8 to 10 weeks to construct the 220‑ft. intake tower for this reservoir project, using the conventional “gang” jump-form building method. However, the company’s strategy changed when they experienced unforeseen project delays. Ibberson was called in because of its slipform expertise, and the intake tower was completed on schedule.
